Embassy of U.A.E. (United Arab Emirates) in Beijing
The embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Beijing is located at Chancery: 2-6-2, Ta Yuan Diplomatic Office Building, No.14 Liang Ma He Nan Lu and it performs the same functions as any other embassy. Historically the purpose of an embassy was so that the ambassador could represent his country in discussions with the government of China. Well this still happens modern communication technology has substantially reduced this aspect of the job. The primary role of the embassy these days is to offer assistance to citizens of the Emirates while they are in China. This is primarily done by offering advice on how to deal with certain situations, there is a limit to what the embassy can actually do. The embassy also plays an important role in promoting the interests of the United Arab Emirates in China. They do this by encouraging people to visit or invest in the Emirates or by promoting products from the Emirates in China. The embassy will also provide visas and other paper work that may be required in order for Chinese citizens to visit the country.
The United Arab Emirates are a group of small kingdoms located in the middle east, on the Persian Gulf. They have come together to act more or less as one country when it comes to international affairs. They have done this in order to be able to compete with their larger neighbours. The Emirates are one of the wealthiest countries in the world as they are sitting on top of a large deposit of oil. This has made many citizens of the Emirates very wealthy, however there are also large numbers of foreign labourers from third world countries who are very poor. Unlike most countries in the middle east the government of the Emirates have realized that the oil won't last forever and have been actively making plans for when it runs out.
The primary way that the Emirates plan to deal with the end of their oil reserves is by becoming a tourist hot spot. They have already gone a long way to doing this with Dubai being a major tourist center. Partly to help make this happen the Emirates are by far the most relaxed and liberal country in the middle east when it comes to Islamic law. The country doesn't want to discourage tourism by having people afraid of running afoul of the religious police. The country is also attempting to promote a high tech industry as well as a banking industry in order to diversify the economy.
Relations between the United Arab Emirates and China are based primarily on mutual self interest and this has kept them on good terms, with business opportunities in Dubai quickly being snapped up by new Chinese money. The government of China is well aware that in order for it's economy to continue to grow it needs to have access to oil. For their part the government of the Emirates want to encourage Chinese tourists to visit as well as increase their access to the Chinese market. This has resulted in the two countries forging a good relationship, one that looks likely to get even tighter in the future.
