Embassy of Japan in Beijing

The Japanese embassy in Beijing is located at Chancery: No.7, Ri Tan Lu, Jian Guo Men Wai, Chaoyang District, it's purpose being to represent the interests of Japan in China. The reason that embassies exist is so that there are ambassadors who can discuss issues with the Chinese government on behalf of their own governments, however this role has been dramatically reduced in recent years. These days the primary purpose of the embassy is to provide services to Japanese citizens who are in China. The embassy is also used by Chinese citizens who wish to visit Japan as it is where visas and other paperwork can be arranged. In recent years the embassies job has become primarily about promoting Japan to citizens of China. They do this to encourage both business and tourism. The embassy can help Japanese businesses who want to sell products in China and they can also help Chinese businesses who want to invest in Japan.

Japan is an island nation just off the coast of China, it is one of the most densely populated nations in the world and one of the wealthiest. Early Japan was heavily influenced by China but they have subsequently gone their own way. When the European powers were colonizing Asia, Japan not only managed to avoid becoming a colony but they actually learned from the Europeans and became a major power in their own right. After losing the second world war Japan was occupied by the United States but still managed to remain independent and grow into one of the worlds leading economies. The Japanese are a very parochial nation and in many cases down right racist to the non-Japanese. This has caused a lot of tension between Japan and their neighbours.

The Japanese economy is one of the largest and strongest in the world. They were the first Asian country to become industrialized and had a massive head start over their neighbours. The Japanese economy is based on a very efficient manufacturing industry and a world leading high tech industry. Given that Japan almost completely lacks any natural resources their development is quite astounding and has been a model for other Asian countries as they look to develop.

The relationship between Japan and China is very tense and the situation is only likely to get worse. China are upset about Japanese atrocities that occurred during the second world war that the Japanese have never apologized nor shown any remorse for. They are also upset by Japans continued support for Taiwan which China believes should not be an independent country, and there's the issue of China catching up with Japan. The Japanese have tended to look down on the Chinese for their lack of development and have at times been openly racist. Now that China has passed Japan to become the worlds second largest economy things are only likely to get worse as the two countries are now rivals for dominance in Asia.
